Artist's Biography
Ty Burhoe has been a disciple of the great tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain since 1990. From that time forward, Ty has been wholly dedicated to music as a career and as a spiritual path. He has become well known not only for his talents as a tabla player, but also for his extensive experience as a recording and live concert producer. His work with numerous projects including “Curandero,” have gained international attention and in his teacher's inspiration, founded new territory for the tabla. Ty is also recognized as being instrumental in creating unusual collaborations which weave tabla with the traditions of Jazz, African, Flamenco, Rock, Celtic, Chinese, Bluegrass and Fusion. In 2000, he created the record label, Owl Records, and a concert production company called Burhoe Productions. These home spun companies are designed to host CDs, projects and tours presented by the many artists Ty collaborates with. He has become tour assistant for his teacher Zakir Hussain (on North American tours), a versatile job, ranging from designing the artist’s tour cases, repairing/maintaining the instruments, playing tambura or running the sound board, and managing the artists on the road. Ty is also designing specialized hand drums, percussion racks and a series of drumming/yoga retreats and intensives around the Americas and Europe. Ty currently lives in NYC and works as a freelance artist, touring up to 70% of the year.

“The StarHouse is very close to my heart. I have played concerts there dozens of times and I feel it is one of the most beautiful spaces I’ve ever shared music in. I’ve performed all over the world, including many of the old Cathedrals and Churches around Europe and the US. There is a special personality to The StarHouse space which invokes a calm, contemplative mood for both the artist and the audience. I was around when it was being built and was involved in many of the ceremonies, plays and initial concerts which took place there. In its construction, every inch of the building was consciously and lovingly crafted by hand and many of its hidden secrets are not exposed to the eye. This kind of care is what makes The StarHouse glow with its unique aura and becomes a resonant heart, when music is played within."
