RAPTURE
The debut CD of the Celtic duo Peace & Love & Jigs & Reels; Gregg Hansen (acoustic guitar, percussion) and Cynthia Jaffe (Irish flute, Irish whistles and alto flute) bring their combined eclectic inspiration to Irish and Scottish music in this juicy recording. The album features both traditional tunes and original compositions, rapturous reels and jigs, beautiful ballads, ancient waltzes and airs. Full of playfulness, soul and sheer surprise. |
Artist's Biography
Cynthia Jaffe is a classically trained flutist, composer and recording artist. Over the past three decades she has opened deeply to the muses of improvisational and world music. In addition to playing concert flute and alto flute, she plays the wooden Irish flute, and is currently in the Celtic duo Peace & Love & Jigs & Reels and the world music ensemble Second Nature. She has studied Celtic flute with Irish flute virtuosos Seamus Egan and Chris Norman, as well as South Indian bamboo flute with T. Viswanathan, and classical flute with protégés of the late Samuel Baron. She has lived in New York, Denmark and Holland, and now resides in Boulder, Colorado. Cynthia has been a regular musician at the StarHouse since 1993, as accompanist for the Deeper Dances of Universal Peace.
Gregg Hansen has been performing and recording Celtic guitar for over a decade. In his 40 years of musicianship, Gregg has professionally engaged in many styles of Western and world music on guitar and percussion, including jazz, reggae and, of course, Celtic. Throughout the 90's he recorded and performed with the Tennessee-based Celtic ensembles "Planet Reel" and "Different Folks." Now, in Boulder since 2000, Gregg is here to continue his Celtic path in Peace & Love & Jigs & Reels. Gregg often performs on percussion at The StarHouse accompanying the Deepr Dances of Universal Peace.

Cynthia Jaffé: "The StarHouse has an acoustical magic that I can actually feel in the vibrations of my flute and my body as I play. Maybe it's the womb of warm wood; maybe it's the peace and beauty of the mountains outside, the candlelight inside, the meditative presence of the people who tend to come there.... All I know is that the space and the natural landscape around it support the kind of silence a musician needs in order to hear her muse – and then, once the music comes through, the resonance is sublime."
Gregg Hansen: "Playing music at The StarHouse is a chance to watch the notes float as the sounds within those walls gently massage the physical and energy body. It's easy to feel and hear the beginning, middle and end of every note. And what I really love as a musician is that The StarHouse is a place where I can play delicately, subtly."
